According to a high-ranking defense spokesperson, the American military carried out a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

“A US joint task force carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft linked to a Designated Terrorist Organization in open sea. Surveillance confirmed the vessel was transiting along a established drug smuggling route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”

Background and Prior Strikes

This announcement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, pledging to escalate the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Actions Amid Scrutiny

The government has faced increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has said the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, remarks from a senior aide appeared to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff said the president “wants to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president surrenders or concedes.”

This suggests the series of strikes may be part of a push to remove Venezuela's sitting government.
