The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the song choice.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the official score of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was catchy and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's intro with "the new song" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
